COSTELLO: That many people are out of work?

ABBOTT: No, that's 16%.

COSTELLO: IF you are out of work you are unemployed.

ABBOTT: No, you can't count the "Out of Work" as the unemployed. You have to look for work to be unemployed.

COSTELLO: BUT THEY ARE OUT OF WORK!!!

ABBOTT: No, you miss my point.

COSTELLO: What point?

ABBOTT: Someone who doesn't look for work, can't be counted with those who look for work. It wouldn't be fair.

COSTELLO: To who?

ABBOTT: The unemployed.

COSTELLO: But they are ALL out of work.

ABBOTT: No, the unemployed are actively looking for work...
Those who are out of work stopped looking.
They gave up.
And, if you give up, you are no longer in the ranks of the unemployed.

COSTELLO: So if you're off the unemployment roles, that would count as less unemployment?

ABBOTT: Unemployment would go down. Absolutely!

COSTELLO: The unemployment just goes down because you don't look for work?

ABBOTT: Absolutely it goes down. That's how you get to 9%. Otherwise it would be 16%. You don't want to read about 16% unemployment do ya?

COSTELLO: That would be frightening.

ABBOTT: Absolutely.

COSTELLO: Wait, I got a question for you. That means they're two ways to bring down the unemployment number?

ABBOTT: Two ways is correct.

COSTELLO: Unemployment can go down if someone gets a job?

ABBOTT: Correct.

COSTELLO: And unemployment can also go down if you stop looking for a job?

ABBOTT: Bingo.

COSTELLO: So there are two ways to bring unemployment down, and the easier of the two is to just stop looking for work.

ABBOTT: Now you're thinking like an economist.

COSTELLO: I don't even know what the hell I just said!

In the Muslim faith a Muslim man can marry a child as young as 1 year old and have sexual intimacy with this child. Consummating the marriage by 9.
The dowry is given to the family in exchange for the woman (who becomes his slave) and for the purchase of the private parts of the woman, to use her as a toy.

Even though a woman is abused she can not obtain a divorce. To prove rape, the woman must have (4) male witnesses. Often after a woman has been raped, she is returned to her family and the family must return the dowry. The family has the right to execute her (an honor killing) to restore the honor of the family. Husbands can beat their wives 'at will' and he does not have to say why he has beaten her.

The husband is permitted to have (4 wives) and a temporary wife for an hour (prostitute) at his discretion.

The Shariah Muslim law controls the private as well as the public life of the woman.

In the West World (America) Muslim men are starting to demand Shariah Law so the wife can not obtain a divorce and he can have full and complete control of her. It is amazing and alarming how many of our sisters and daughters attending American Universities are now marrying Muslim men and submitting themselves and their children unsuspectingly to the Shariah law.

By passing this on, enlightened American women may avoid becoming a slave under Shariah Law.

Ripping the West in Two.
Author and lecturer Nonie Darwish says the goal of radical Islamists is to impose Shariah law on the world, ripping Western law and liberty in two.

She recently authored the book, Cruel and Usual Punishment: The Terrifying Global Implications of Islamic Law.

Darwish was born in Cairo and spent her childhood in Egypt and Gaza before immigrating to America in 1978, when she was eight years old. Her father died while leading covert attacks on Israel . He was a high-ranking Egyptian military officer stationed with his family in Gaza .

When he died, he was considered a "shahid," a martyr for jihad. His posthumous status earned Nonie and her family an elevated position in Muslim society.

But Darwish developed a skeptical eye at an early age. She questioned her own Muslim culture and upbringing.. She converted to Christianity after hearing a Christian preacher on television.

In her latest book, Darwish warns about creeping sharia law - what it is, what it means, and how it is manifested in Islamic countries.

For the West, she says radical Islamists are working to impose sharia on the world. If that happens, Western civilization will be destroyed. Westerners generally assume all religions encourage a respect for the dignity of each individual. Islamic law (Sharia) teaches that non-Muslims should be subjugated or killed in this world.

Peace and prosperity for one's children is not as important as assuring that Islamic law rules everywhere in the Middle East and eventually in the world.

While Westerners tend to think that all religions encourage some form of the golden rule, Sharia teaches two systems of ethics - one for Muslims and another for non-Muslims. Building on tribal practices of the seventh century, Sharia encourages the side of humanity that wants to take from and subjugate others..

While Westerners tend to think in terms of religious people developing a personal understanding of and relationship with God, Sharia advocates executing people who ask difficult questions that could be interpreted as criticism.

It's hard to imagine, that in this day and age, Islamic scholars agree that those who criticize Islam or choose to stop being Muslim should be executed. Sadly, while talk of an Islamic reformation is common and even assumed by many in the West, such murmurings in the Middle East are silenced through intimidation.

While Westerners are accustomed to an increase in religious tolerance over time, Darwish explains how petro dollars are being used to grow an extremely intolerant form of political Islam in her native Egypt and elsewhere.

(In twenty years there will be enough Muslim voters in the U.S. To elect the President by themselves! Rest assured they will do so... You can look at how they have taken over several towns in the USA .. Dearborn Mich. Is one... And there are others...)

I think everyone in the U.S. Should be required to read this, but with the ACLU, there is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us sends it on!

It is too bad that so many are disillusioned with life and Christianity to accept Muslims as peaceful.. some may be but they have an army that is willing to shed blood in the name of Islam.. the peaceful support the warriors with their finances and own kind of patriotism to their religion.

While America is getting rid of Christianity from all public sites and erasing God from the lives of children the Muslims are planning a great jihad on America.

The current Occupy Wall Street movement is the best illustration to date of what President Barack Obama's America looks like. It is an America where the lawless, unaccomplished, ignorant and incompetent rule. It is an America where those who have sacrificed nothing pillage and destroy the lives of those who have sacrificed greatly.

It is an America where history is rewritten to honor dictators, murderers and thieves. It is an America where violence, racism, hatred, class warfare and murder are all promoted as acceptable means of overturning the American civil society.

It is an America where humans have been degraded to the level of animals: defecating in public, having sex in public, devoid of basic hygiene. It is an America where the basic tenets of a civil society, including faith, family, a free press and individual rights, have been rejected. It is an America where our founding documents have been shredded and, with them, every person's guaranteed liberties.

It is an America where, ultimately, great suffering will come to the American people, but the rulers like Obama, Michelle Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Joe Biden, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, liberal college professors, union bosses and other loyal liberal/Communist Party members will live in opulent splendor.

It is the America that Obama and the Democratic Party have created with the willing assistance of the American media, Hollywood , unions, universities, the Communist Party of America, the Black Panthers and numerous anti-American
foreign entities.

Barack Obama has brought more destruction upon this country in four years than any other event in the history of our nation, but it is just the beginning of what he and his comrades are capable of.

The folks who are GETTING the free stuff don't like the folks who
are PAYING for the free stuff, because the folks who are paying for the free stuff,
can no longer afford to pay for both the free stuff and their own stuff,

The people who are forcing the people who pay for the free stuff, have told the people who are RECEIVING the free stuff, that the people who are PAYING for the free stuff,
are being mean, prejudiced, and racist.

So...the people who are GETTING the free stuff, have been convinced they
need to hate the people who are paying for the free stuff, by the people who are forcing some people to pay for their free stuff, and giving them the free stuff in the first place.

We have let the free stuff giving go on for so long that there are now more people getting free stuff than paying for the free stuff.

Now understand this: All great democracies have committed financial suicide

The voters figured out they could vote themselves money from the treasury by electing
people who promised to give them money from the treasury in exchange

The Ghost of Thanksgiving Yet to Come

"Winston, come into the dining room, it's time to eat," Julia yelled to her husband. "In a minute, honey, it's a tie score," he answered. Actually Winston wasn't very interested in the traditional holiday football game between Detroit and Washington . Ever since the government passed the Civility in Sports Statute of 2017, outlawing tackle football for its "unseemly violence" and the "bad example it sets for the rest of the world," Winston was far less of a football fan than he used to be. Two-hand touch wasn't nearly as exciting.

Yet it wasn't the game that Winston was uninterested in. It was more the thought of eating another Tofu Turkey. Even though it was the best type of Veggie Meat available after the government revised the American Anti-Obesity Act of 2018, adding fowl to the list of federally-forbidden foods, (which already included potatoes, cranberry sauce and mince-meat pie), it wasn't anything like real turkey. And ever since the government officially changed the name of "Thanksgiving Day" to "A National Day of Atonement" in 2020 to officially acknowledge the Pilgrims' historically brutal treatment of Native Americans, the holiday had lost a lot of its luster.

Eating in the dining room was also a bit daunting. The unearthly gleam of government-mandated fluorescent light bulbs made the Tofu Turkey look even weirder than it actually was, and the room was always cold. Ever since Congress passed the Power Conservation Act of 2016, mandating all thermostats-which were monitored and controlled by the electric company-be kept at 68 degrees, every room on the north side of the house was barely tolerable throughout the entire winter.

Still, it was good getting together with family. Or at least most of the family. Winston missed his mother, who passed on in October, when she had used up her legal allotment of live-saving medical treatment. He had had many heated conversations with the Regional Health Consortium, spawned when the private insurance market finally went bankrupt, and everyone was forced into the government health care program. And though he demanded she be kept on her treatment, it was a futile effort. "The RHC's resources are limited," explained the government bureaucrat Winston spoke with on the phone. "Your mother received all the benefits to which she was entitled. I'm sorry for your loss."

Ed couldn't make it either. He had forgotten to plug in his electric car last night, the only kind available after the Anti-Fossil Fuel Bill of 2021 outlawed the use of the combustion engines-for everyone but government officials. The fifty mile round trip was about ten miles too far, and Ed didn't want to spend a frosty night on the road somewhere between here and there.

Thankfully, Winston's brother, John, and his wife were flying in. Winston made sure that the dining room chairs had extra cushions for the occasion. No one complained more than John about the pain of sitting down so soon after the government-mandated cavity searches at airports, which severely aggravated his hemorrhoids. Ever since a terrorist successfully smuggled a cavity bomb onto a jetliner, the TSA told Americans the added "inconvenience" was an "absolute necessity" in order to stay "one step ahead of the terrorists." Winston's own body had grown accustomed to such probing ever since the government expanded their scope to just about anywhere a crowd gathered, via Anti-Profiling Act of 2022. That law made it a crime to single out any group or individual for "unequal scrutiny," even when probable cause was involved. Thus, cavity searches at malls, train stations, bus depots, etc., etc., had become almost routine. Almost.

The Supreme Court is reviewing the statute, but most Americans expect a Court composed of six progressives and three conservatives to leave the law intact. "A living Constitution is extremely flexible," said the Court's eldest member, Elena Kagan. " Europe has had laws like this one for years. We should learn from their example," she added.

Winston's thoughts turned to his own children. He got along fairly well with his 12-year-old daughter, Brittany, mostly because she ignored him. Winston had long ago surrendered to the idea that she could text anyone at any time, even during Atonement Dinner. Their only real confrontation had occurred when he limited her to 50,000 texts a month, explaining that was all he could afford. She whined for a week, but got over it.

His 16-year-old son, Jason, was another matter altogether. Perhaps it was the constant bombarding he got in public school that global warming, the bird flu, terrorism or any of a number of other calamities were "just around the corner," but Jason had developed a kind of nihilistic attitude that ranged between simmering surliness and outright hostility. It didn't help that Jason had reported his father to the police for smoking a cigarette in the house, an act made criminal by the Smoking Control Statute of 2018, which outlawed smoking anywhere within 500 feet of another human being. Winston paid the $5000 fine, which might have been considered excessive before the American dollar became virtually worthless as a result of QE13. The latest round of quantitative easing the federal government initiated was, once again, to "spur economic growth." This time they promised to push unemployment below its years-long rate of 18%, but Winston was not particularly hopeful.

Yet the family had a lot for which to be thankful, Winston thought, before remembering it was a Day of Atonement. At least he had his memories. He felt a twinge of sadness when he realized his children would never know what life was like in the Good Old Days, long before government promises to make life "fair for everyone" realized their full potential. Winston, like so many of his fellow Americans, never realized how much things could change when they didn't happen all at once, but little by little, so people could get used to them.

He wondered what might have happened if the public had stood up while there was still time, maybe back around 2010, when all the real nonsense began. "Maybe we wouldn't be where we are today if we'd just said 'enough is enough' when we had the chance," he thought.

Maybe so, Winston. Maybe so.

Misinformation?

During this Christmas/Holiday Season the Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has been putting out the word that "intelligence" points to a strong possibility that terrorists were planning several operation.

We were told by Homeland Security that although there were "strong indications," we should not be overly concerned and "not to change Holiday plans or trips."

Think about this: If these "strong indications" of terrorists activities during the holidays were actually truthful, where would expect the Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano bo be located? Well ... dah ... she would be in the Control Center at the HS Headquarters. Right?

Well, that is not how it worked out. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano was in Afganistan. Hmmm ...

Here we are on 1/1/2011 and no terrorist activities ... which is very good!

Bottom Line: We were told there was "strong indications" of big trouble and none happened. Sounds like the Department of Homeland Security worked well and "protected us from the bad guys."

There is an obvious hint that maybe the terrorist alerts from the HS department were designed more to enhance the prestige of Homeland Security, rather than protecting us from any actual threats.

A Short Story

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be very liberal, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch conservative, a feeling she
openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.

Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying. Her father listened and then asked, “How is your friend Audrey doing?” She replied, “Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over.”

Her wise father asked his daughter, “Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.” The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, “That's a crazy idea, how would that be fair! I've worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!”

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, “Welcome to the conservative side of the fence.”

If anyone has a better explanation of the difference between conservative and liberal or progressive or neocon, I'm all ears.

If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.

A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.

If a conservative reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh.
A liberal will delete it because he's "offended."

Reminds me of an old story:

One night, a runner came by a family's house, pounding on the door and yelling, "Get out! The dam has broken and you'll be washed away."

"No," said the man of the house, (why couldn't it have been the woman of the house?) "I don't think it will affect us."

Soon, the Sheriff's truck with a loudspeaker came by, screaming, " The dam has broken, evacuate immediately!"

The man of the house said, "I don't see any water, we'll be OK."

Soon, the water began to rise in the house ... quickly it was almost four feet deep.

Along came a man in a boat. "Jump in," he said, "before you're swept away."

The man of the house said, "I think this is about as high as it will get ... we're staying"

The water quickly rose higher, now almost to the ceiling, which forced the family up onto the roof.

Along came a helicopter and rescue crew said, "We here to get you to safe ground, get in now, before it's too late."

The man of the house said, "We safe here on the roof, it won't get any worse."

Sure enough, the water rose, swept the house way, and drown the whole family!

At St. Peter's Gate, the man bemoaned, "Lord, how could you have let this happen? My whole family died?"

"How did I let it happen?" The Lord asked.

As President of PC Air (Politically Correct Airlines), I have instituted a new flight policy based upon Privacy Concerns.

Many people and groups have objected to the use of our new full-body scanning devices and other non-disclosed security procedures we have implemented at our airline check-in locations.

We feel your concerns and are doing something about it.

Starting January 1, 2010, PC Air will have frequent flights to popular locations with "relaxed" security procedures. To board these flights, you will only need a valid ticket. NO scanning or screening of any kind will be required. Neither you nor your baggage will be subjected to any security procedures. These flights can be identified by the the initials "PC" following the flight number. For example: The morning flight from New York to Las Vegas will be identified as Flight 345PC.

No advance reservation will be required for these flights and for your convenience, with a valid ticket, you may simply walk-on prior to departure. Many seats are usually available.

HOLDING TERRORISTS TRIALS IN NEW YORK CITY

In my opinion, this bru-ha-ha over the terrorists trials in NYC will end up being our "Well-Spoken-Community-Organizer's" Waterloo. Surely, no one, even on first hearing about this dumb-headed decision, would doubt how stupid this is!

Today, it is being reported that the Terrorists have stated they will use the trial as a forum to tell why they brought down the WTC.

Excuse me: Tell WHY they did it? Why they killed 2000+ people?

One other "minor complication:" There is little doubt that someone will make a threat against NYC during this trial. (Dah ...!) The government has few choices in response, but one that is #1 on the list is to screen EVERYONE coming into the city. This means an airport type inspection at every port of entry: Every train; Every bus; Every subway; Every car; Every walk-in person! Need anyone explain the ramifications of this?

It is EXACTLY what everyone has been saying: DO NOT HOLD THE TRIALS IN NEW YORK CITY! Kapish? (Google it!)

Roger's Road To Common Sense Healtcare

(This piece is based upon twenty years in the individual and group health insurance sales business and an increasing need to get some common sense in this wildly out-of-control health insurance debacle.)

PRIMARY QUESTION: Why is health insurance centered around group health insurance policies provided by the employer or as proposed, the government?

It makes no sense! Health insurance is a personal matter. Once the insurance is provided by a business or large entity, it becomes necessary to include treatment for every possible malady known to man and to allow treatment by any and all “practitioners” who can demonstrate any benefit, however slight.

Many people are not interested in pregnancy coverage, drug rehab coverage, acupuncture coverage, aroma therapy coverage, overweight counseling or tribal medicine man coverage.

As it is now, payments for such coverage is being, or will be, forcibly extracted from our bank account, whether we want it or not … It is simply part and parcel of “group coverage.” Employer provided Group Insurance must provide a benefit for every goofy treatment available or else someone will complain that their favorite (and always “effective”) health practitioner is being discriminated against. I have seen through the years, coverage’s added to group policies for every and any sort of health practitioner that can present a good story. As each useless benefit is added, the cost is added to everyone’s policy.

I have long held that the most cost effective health insurance policy is an individually owned policy. The purchaser of an individual policy can select from a list of benefits that most closely applies to their situation. For example, would a 55-year old couple, well established in life select pregnancy or drug rehab coverage? Probably not. These two coverage’s are among the most expensive. The cost for a policy without pregnancy or drug rehab benefits would therefore be much more affordable.

Until now, obtaining a reasonably priced individual policy is elusive. The reason is two-fold: First, at this time, each policy is individually underwritten because, as a whole, individual policies are few, in relation to the vast group, employer provided policies. If you have any condition that might result in a potential claim, the applicant is either denied coverage or has a rated up premium. Second: State insurance laws favor the selective underwriting PLUS it restricts sales to those policies approved by the State Insurance Commissioner. (See any possible conflict of interest here?)

This whole problem can be eliminated by “National Underwriting,” in other words, any and all companies and policies that are financially sound, can be offered with NO underwriting and NO denial for preexisting conditions. In addition, for example, pregnancy and drug rehab can be offered as options, much like air-conditioning and power steering in the auto industry. Thus the policy would be priced accordingly. As time and circumstances change, options can be added or deleted, as appropriate.

The thought has been advanced that individuals are not “smart enough” to sort through all the “insurance language” and select a policy suitable for their situation. Baloney! If they can do their income tax, they can select an insurance policy. Not only that, a whole new industry of insurance consultants will spring forth to clearly promote the benefits of their offering. An individual can select from an inexpensive, high-deductable, catastrophic coverage only policy, to a near-zero deductible, total coverage policy with premiums proportionate to the selected coverage. The choice is up to the purchaser.

Another benefit of the individually owned policy is it is fully transportable, that is, it goes with the individual no matter where the person works … or even doesn’t work.

Since employers would be freed from the extremely high cost of their employee’s health insurance, they would be required to pass those savings down to their employees through increased wages. The tax benefits attributed to the employers would be similarly invested in the individual. The net effect would be “no-loss-no-gain” for the employer and a “win-win” situation for the employee.

BOTTOM LINE: “Roger’s Road To Common Sense Healthcare” is simply a no-nonsense way to provide healthcare for EVERYONE in a simple, cost-effective, transportable manner. Needless to say there is “fine print” that needs to be ironed out, but no “show-stoppers” are apparent.

Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless: (There is talk to add pump shotguns!)

It is registered with the FEDERAL Government.
You are fingerprinted.
You pass a WRITTEN test.
You supply a current Driver's License.
You supply your Social Security number.
You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing.

Each update: Change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25.

Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.

There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18.

They would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.

This is possibly the most arrogant (CRISIS) administration in the history of our country. First, Congress passes an urgent bill (CRISIS) that no one reads. Then CRISIS-Obama flits around the country on Air Force One at $50,000 per hour to sell the plan (CRISIS) because it doesn't stand on its own merit. (CRISIS) Instead of returning to Washington to sign that "urgent bill" (CRISIS) to stop the "crisis," (CRISIS) he takes off for a long weekend in Chicago to get a hair cut and shoot some hoops with his friends. And then to top the (CRISIS) week off, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi goes on a tax payer-paid "fact-finding' (CRISIS) trip to visit the Pope to get her hand slapped (CRISIS) for her views on abortion. Several other congressmen make the (CRISIS) trip as well. So the "crisis" (CRISIS) is only for we little people to suffer, right? (CRISIS)

Ps: I can hardly wait for my $13 to arrive. My guess is: If it actually does arrive, I'll be able to buy three or four gallons of gas. Whoopee!

How you like your "Boy President" now? He's sure dropped his clear & open governing pretty quickly! Here we have a 1,071 page, 8-inch-thick massive spending bill - the biggest in US history - which was railroaded through congress without a single congressman being given time to even read it.

What happened to his promise of posting important items on line and allowing time for "the American people to read and comment on it ... before any action would be taken?"
It has been my personal experience that when things are being pushed and rushed, it usually stinks ... and has something in it to hide!

Here we have all of our elected officials, being conjoled by the "Savior" and a few deciples to vote before reading.

Urine Test

I work, they pay me.

I pay my taxes, and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit.

In order to earn that pay check, I work on a rig site for a Fort McMurray construction project. At any time I am required to pass a random urine test, with which I have no problem.

HOWEVER, what I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them?

Understand - I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do on the other hand have a problem with helping someone sit on their ass, drink beer and smoke dope. Could you imagine how much money this country would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

Something has to change in this country!

A Letter From The Boss

To All My Valued Employees,

I started this company 28 years ago. At that time, I lived in a 300 square foot studio apartment for 3 years. My entire living apartment was converted into an office so I could put forth 100% effort into building a company, which by the way, would eventually employ you.

My diet consisted of Ramen Pride noodles because every dollar I spent went back into this company. I drove a rusty Toyota Corolla with a defective transmission. I didn't have time to date. Often times, I stayed home on weekends, while my friends went out drinking and partying. In fact, I was married to my business -- hard work, discipline, and sacrifice.

Meanwhile, my friends got jobs. They worked 40 hours a week and made a modest $50K a year and spent every dime they earned. They drove flashy cars and lived in expensive homes and wore fancy designer clothes. Instead of hitting the Nordstrom's for the latest hot fashion item, I was trolling through the discount store extracting any clothing item that didn't look like it was birthed in the 70's. My friends refinanced their mortgages and lived a life of luxury. I, however, did not. I put my time, my money, and my life into a business with a vision that eventually, some day, I too, will be able to afford these luxuries my friends supposedly had.

So, while you physically arrive at the office at 9am, mentally check in at about noon, and then leave at 5pm, I don't. There is no "off" button for me. When you leave the office, you are done and you have a weekend all to yourself. I unfortunately do not have the freedom. I eat, and breathe this company every minute of the day. There is no rest. There is no weekend. There is no happy hour. Every day this business is attached to my hip like a 1 year old special-needs child. You, of course, only see the fruits of that garden -- the nice house, the Mercedes, the vacations... you never realize the Back Story and the sacrifices I've made.

Now, the economy is falling apart and I, the guy that made all the right decisions and saved his money, have to bail-out all the people who didn't. The people that overspent their paychecks suddenly feel entitled to the same luxuries that I earned and sacrificed decades of my life for.

Yes, business ownership has its benefits but the price I've paid is steep and not without wounds.

Unfortunately, the cost of running this business, and employing you, is starting to eclipse the threshold of marginal benefit and let me tell you why:

I am being taxed to death and the government thinks I don't pay enough. I have state taxes. Federal taxes. Property taxes. Sales and use taxes. Payroll taxes. Workers compensation taxes. Unemployment taxes. Taxes on taxes. I have to hire a tax man to manage all these taxes and then guess what? I have to pay taxes for employing him. Government mandates and regulations and all the accounting that goes with it, now occupy most of my time. On Oct 15th, I wrote a check to the US Treasury for $288,000 for quarterly taxes. You know what my "stimulus" check was? Zero. Nada. Zilch.

The question I have is this: Who is stimulating the economy? Me, the guy who has provided 23 people good paying jobs and serves over 2,200,000 people per year with a flourishing business? Or, the single mother sitting at home pregnant with her fourth child waiting for her next welfare check? Obviously, government feels the latter is the economic stimulus of this country.

The fact is, if I deducted (Read: Stole) 50% of your paycheck you'd quit and you wouldn't work here. I mean, why should you? That's nuts. Who wants to get rewarded only 50% of their hard work? Well, I agree which is why your job is in jeopardy.

Here is what many of you don't understand ... to stimulate the economy you need to stimulate what runs the economy. Had suddenly government mandated to me that I didn't need to pay taxes, guess what? Instead of depositing that $288,000 into the Washington black-hole, I would have spent it, hired more employees, and generated substantial economic growth. My employees would have enjoyed the wealth of that tax cut in the form of promotions and better salaries. But you can forget it now.

When you have a comatose man on the verge of death, you don't defibrillate and shock his thumb thinking that will bring him back to life, do you? Or, do you defibrillate his heart? Business is at the heart of America and always has been. To restart it, you must stimulate it, not kill it. Suddenly, the power brokers in Washington believe the poor of America are the essential drivers of the American economic engine. Nothing could be further from the truth and this is the type of change you can keep.
So where am I going with all this?

It's quite simple.

If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, my reaction will be swift and simple. I fire you. I fire your co-workers. You can then plead with the government to pay for your mortgage, your SUV, and your child's future. Frankly, it isn't my problem any more.

Then, I will close this company down, move to another country, and retire. You see, I'm done. I'm done with a country that penalizes the productive and gives to the unproductive. My motivation to work and to provide jobs will be destroyed, and with it, will be my citizenship.

So, if you lose your job, it won't be at the hands of the economy; it will be at the hands of a political hurricane that swept through this country, steamrolled the constitution, and will have changed its landscape forever. If that happens, you can find me sitting on a beach, retired, and with no employees to worry about....

Here ... Take This Fifteen Billion Dollars of Our Money and Enjoy The Holiday's

What's up with the current administration pushing to give the auto industry $15-Billion, with (although stated differently) almost no strings attached?

For openers, GM currently owes about $60-Billion to creditors. Next, GM has stated they are "burning through" about $2-Billion per WEEK! Although adamantly denied by the UAW (United Auto Workers union) many line workers reportedly are "earning" in the $50/hour range.

What will the $15-Billion gift to GM buy them? Not much, except the ability to pay workers through Christmas and maybe even until Obama takes office.

Does this make ANY sense? If you are the outgoing President, it does: Bush might be able to say that he did what GM asked for and GM did not go down the tubes during his watch. (But it most likely will during the Obama/Democrat watch, unless a massive influx of OUR DOLLARS bails out all the unimaginative, conniving management and unionized overpaid workers!)

I see the "logic" as this: We handed $350-Billion to the banks and they simply gobbled it up with little accountability. So, $15-Billion to the auto industry is simply "Chump Change" and will give the administration a Gold Star (Well, maybe a Silver Star) for "Doing The Right Thing."

Make sense?

It's time - actually well past time - to drop all the tiring "Obama said this ... Obama said that ... " rhetoric and useless emails.

It's no surprise to me that I'm still getting many emails pointing out real and phony, truthful and untruthful statements and actions concerning Barack Obama: That's all history now and has no useful purpose in resurrecting a broken government.

Now is the time to support our new President-elect. It's going to be a near super-human task for Obama to run this government, never mind all the usual and customary over-the-top promises he (and the other candidate) made. A right thinking individual, hopefully, never voted on the "pie-in-the-sky" talk. (I wish that were true, but I know far too many never saw through the wool.)

So, save the electrons and just delete all the "new discoveries (fill in the blank) regarding Obama."

Now IS the time to report on what the new President actually does and how those action relate to the betterment of our country. Some folks will agree with those actions ... and some will not. That IS what we should be discussing, not: "What Obama is trying to cover up."

Wish Obama Great Luck ... he's going to need all he can get.

Big Pink Elephant

Looks like there is a "Big Pink Elephant" right in the middle of the current Presidential "Debates and Dialogs" ... and no one wants to see it!

What ever happened to all the talk about illegal immigration, the rush across our southern border and all the associated problems? Has that problem gone away ... I don't think so!

Not a word about it!

Can it be that no candidate wants to "offend" a possible voter ... likely!

So here we have two potential US and world leaders babbling back and forth about nonsense items and promising the silly and impossible. All the while, the masses are streaming into our country, virtually at will.

This morning, I watched one of the few TV shows I like: "CBS News Sunday Morning." There was a very "interesting" segment on health care in the US and other countries. It raved over what a great medical system the French have. It seems in France, any legal French citizen can have care for free ... the government pays all the bills. (Note the word "legal!")

Near the end of the French Connection, it very quickly pointed out the the French system was running an annual deficit of over TEN BILLION US dollars and the "some changes were going to have to be made!" So much for the enviable French medical system.

In pointing out the financial problems with US health care and, in particular, US hospitals, it was NEVER mentioned EVEN ONCE that much of the problem was due to illegal aliens using our health care system for free. One doctor did, however, admit that people with health insurance "probably" were being charged more to offset those that didn't pay.

Great: Income Redistribution at work! (Like ... we need more of this?)

An Exercise in "Wealth Redistribution."

Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money." I laughed. Once in the restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference -- just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need, like the homeless guy outside.

The server angrily stormed from my sight. I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient "deserved" money more. I guess distribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.

Idea: Employers could announce the consideration of employee raises, then withhold those raises and give the proceeds to a worthy cause, preferably one involving non-workers ...

Suggestion For Your Presidential Vote

Realistically, anyway you look at it you have your choice of two candidates for President.

We're all hoping that whom ever wins will make America a better place to live and conserve all the benefits we have fought for since 1776.

We know that America is under attack, either overtly or covertly. Many that wish us harm are always looking for a "Window of Opportunity" to inflict grievous damage upon our nation ... hopefully, in their minds, damage so sever that it would bring the nation down.

May I suggest this when deciding who you are going to vote for: Ask yourself this simple question:

"Who would the terrorists most like to be the next President?"

If you think the radically inclined mischievous makers would prefer McCain ... vote for Obama.

If you think the radically inclined mischievous makers would prefer Obama ... vote for McCain.

Whomever you vote for, don't put in office a person that will appease the terrorists!

For me, at least, the answer is clear: It's between a fighting military man or a soft and fuzzy orator.

Noise Complaint at Luke AFB, AZ

Luke AFB is west of Phoenix and is rapidly being surrounded by civilization that complains about the noise from the base and its planes, forgetting that it was there long before they were.

A certain Lieutenant Colonel at Luke AFB deserves a big pat on the back. Apparently, an individual who lives somewhere near Luke AFB wrote the local paper complaining about a group of F-16s that disturbed his/her day at the mall. When that individual read the response from a Luke AFB officer, it must have stung quite a bit. The complaint:

'Question of the day for Luke Air ForceBase: Whom do we thank for the morning air show?

Last Wednesday, at precisely 9:11 A.M, a tight formation of four F-16 jets made a low pass over Arrowhead Mall, continuing west over Bell Road at approximately 500 feet. Imagine our good fortune! Do the Tom Cruise-wannabes feel we need this wake-up call, or were they trying to impress the cashiers at Mervyns early bird special? Any response would be appreciated.'

The response: Regarding 'A wake-up call from Luke's jets'

On June 15, at precisely 9:12 a.m, a perfectly timed four-ship fly by of F-16s from the 63rd Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base flew over the grave of Capt. Jeremy Fresques. Capt. Fresques was an Air Force officer who was previously stationed at Luke Air Force Base and was killed in Iraq on May 30, Memorial Day. At 9 a.m., on June 15, his family and friends gathered at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City to mourn the loss of a husband, son and friend. Based on the letter writer's recount of the fly by, and because of the jet noise, I'm sure you didn't hear the 21-gun salute, the playing of taps, or my words to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques as I gave them their son's flag on behalf of the President of the United States and all those veterans and servicemen and women who understand the sacrifices they have endured. A four-ship flyby is a display of respect the Air Force gives to those who give their lives in defense of freedom. We are professional aviators and take our jobs seriously, and on June 15 what the letter writer witnessed was four officers lining up to pay their ultimate respects.

The letter writer asks, 'Whom do we thank for the morning air show?'

The 56th Fighter Wing will make the call for you, and forward your thanks to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques, and thank them for you, for it was in their honor that my pilots flew the most honorable formation of their lives.

It is now being reported that the liberal media has produced a porno movie (Yes! Porno movie!) starring a Sarah Palin look-alike! It is also being reported that the liberal community is all giddy over this new "movie" and is talking-it-up as a "must see" movie. (QUICK: Open the door ... I need to get outside to puke!)

Did you read what I just wrote? The liberal community can't wait to see this piece of $hit. While we usually can't control what other people do, the real story here is: I challenge you to find much condemnation of this travesty from the "open-minded liberals."

I pose this question: What you you think would happen if someone produced a porno movie starring a Barack Obama or a Michelle Obama look-alike? OH MY GOD ... I can't even visualize that one?

So, where do YOU want to live?

In a community with no standards, promise you everything you want, take from the hard working, job creating, upper-income earners and give to the under performing slackers, pal around with haters and terrorists and generally endorse an "anything goes" attitude? A constantly changing, unpredictable, possibly unstable or risky environment? "Wink" at outrageous behaviour? Mantra: We don't like it so we'll TEAR IT DOWN.

Or in a community where there are long-held standards of conduct; recognition of excellent performance; "teach a man to fish, rather than give him a fish;" hold a person responsible for reprehensible behaviour and "tell it like it is," rather than telling them what they want to hear. Traditional conservative values that you can count on from year to year. Mantra: We don't like it so we'll WORK TOGETHER TO IMPROVE IT.

For about the first six years, the economy was fine. A little over one year ago:

Consumer confidence stood at a 2½ year high
Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon
The unemployment rate was 4.5%
The DOW JONES hit a record high: 14,000+
American's were buying new cars, taking cruises, vacations overseas, living large!

Americans wanted 'CHANGE'!

So, in 2006 they voted in a DemocraticCongress and yes--we got 'CHANGE' all right.

In the PAST YEAR:

Consumer confidence has plummeted
Gasoline is now close to $4 a gallon
Unemployment is up over 5.5% (a 10% increase)
Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 TRILLION DOLLARS and prices are still dropping
1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
Banks are failing
And as I write, stocks are probing another low

$2.5 TRILLION DOLLARS HAS EVAPORATEDFROM THEIR STOCKS, BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS INVESTMENT PORTFOLIOS!

YES, IN 2006 AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE...AND WE SURE GOT IT!

We can learn a great deal from something as simple as a family of quail. To see this family strolling through our yard is a heart warming sight, indeed. Leading the family is "Daddy Quail," followed by the "kids," with "Mom" bring up the rear to keep stragglers in line.

We see this new family out looking for food, almost daily. Usually, they head for the garden to see what bugs and insects are available. Always, they travel together as a family.

My thoughts are: Why can't our modern-day families be as loyal, trusting and devoted to the well-being of everyone. Quail mate for life, so unless somthing happens, the parents stay together forever and raise each new family until they are off on their own.

If something scares the quail family, they seem to fly off, somewhat in the same direction, but always find their way back together again.

The World and it's Creatures are a wonderful experience!

PS: Don't even think about asking if you can hunt quail on the R J Ranch!

Point 1: In my mind I see this way: Those people that "get it" are earning more money, building more job creating businesses, paying more taxes and generally doing quite well ... Thank You! The lower earners are those that listened to their iPod's and text-messaged their buddies during school time ... And joined the 40% of the current US crop of "students" that dropped out of school, ended up in dead-end jobs, went to the Emergency Room when they were sick (because they preferred to have a "hot car" and/or a gigantic plasma TV rather than medical insurance) and ... complain loudly about the great division between "have's and have-not's." The later group is in the "I want it NOW" group, but have no desire to WORK for it.

Point 2: While I certainly don't endorse everything JWB has done, (Or Carter, Clinton, Nixon, Johnson, JFK or Theodore Roosevelt and many others, for that matter) the problem is the country has needlessly become very polarized, like a school-yard fight. No one listens, or wins, but even worse, no one learns. J W Bush has done an excellent job under an excruciating situation. It's almost unforgivable to toss tomatoes when you are comfortably sitting at home in the greatest and safest country ever known to man. Easy to do ... But not too smart, in my opinion. "Worst President Ever. Undeniable" ... I don't think so!

Ps: I wish I were Bush's "buddy," but I don't run in those circles. About the only thing we have in common is we both flew F-102's. Everyone I knew that flew F-102's was a very accomplished person. (The F-102 was a single-engine, single-seat, supersonic all-weather fighter-interceptor. You either "had it together" or you made like a lawn-dart!)

NASCAR: No help here

Believe it or not, typical NASCAR race attendance is 100,000+, although some races, such as the Daytona 500 host twice that many.

There are typically forty (40) cars in each race.

Let's assume that the average race distance is 300 miles ... they range from 150 miles to 500 miles. If 40 cars drive 300 miles, that is a total travelled distance of 12,000 miles (40 x 300).

If each car averages three miles per gallon (a very realistic number: I know, I've been there and done that), the race will turn 4,000 gallons of fuel into polluting exhaust fumes.

If 100,000 fans drive to the race with an average of two people to a car, that means 50,000 cars drive to each race. Let's also make a WAG that their average driving distance TO the race is twenty-five miles. Since most chose to drive back home after the race, that's another twenty-five miles. This means that 50,000 cars drive 50 miles to see the race and return home. That is a total distance travelled for all cars of 2,500,000 miles - TWO MILLION FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND MILES! (50,000 x 50)

If those 50,000 cars average 25 MPG (Somewhat optimistic) they will consume 100,000 gallons of fuel!

Bottom Line:

Forty race cars burn 4,000 gallons of fuel in order to attract 100,000+ fans who, in turn, burn 100,000 gallons of fuel to see the race.

Seems pretty dumb, to me ... and this is just for ONE race! There are dozens of NASCAR races each year.

The other night I watched some very smug OPEC types being asked if they would increase oil production. When they answered in the affirmative, the reporter next asked if they would bring down the prices and they laughted as if to say surely you jest.

I think they are doing this to ensure a certain person will be in the white house next year and after he's been elected they will lower the cost and all will go back to normal with "their man" leading the USA.

I received the following piece as an email today. I thought it was interesting enough to share on this site. Whether you agree, disagree, love or hate it ... it does make for interesting reading, don't you think?

Welcome to Toastmasters, June 13, 2033. That's right: 2033!

Today Rick Campbell, one of our senior members at age 87, is here to reminisce a bit and give us a history lesson. He says he is so old that he learned to drive an internal combustion engine car (remember those) with a manual transmission. He once owned a typewriter. He remembers when bicycles had one speed, phones had two-party lines, and cameras had something called film. As incredible as this may seem, he says that when he was young, it was common for people to smoke in restaurants and public places. He is from a different time; almost a different world.

I'm sure all of us are far too familiar with the tragic events of 2010, so Rick is not going to plow that fertile field again.

Instead, he is going to give us a personal look back at the conditions which led up to that fateful year, in a speech titled '2010 Was Not A Good Year To Be President.'

As we look back on history, it appears that some Presidents had an easy ride --- times of growth and stability. Teddy Roosevelt, Warren G. Harding, Dwight Eisenhower, JFK come to mind. Those were good years to be President.

Others were elected just when the Republic was facing terrible crises: Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt, George W. Bush. They rose to the occasion, even though they were controversial and widely hated while in office. Not such good years to be President.

Just a few years prior, in 2008, the country began foundering. We were in the sixth year of the Iraqi Occupation, and the economy was flat. The mainstream press clearly wanted a Democrat elected. Although we didn't know it until some years later, oil producing nations had colluded to secretly buy their own oil on the open market, driving oil prices to shocking levels above the true demand price- reaching a high of $162 a barrel in October, 2008, just before the general elections.Their purpose was simple: to effect regime change in the United States. And of course, the U.S. economy was already in a real estate slump and also suffering the curse of stagflation; slow growth and high inflation. There were a million home foreclosures. Independent truckers went under by the thousands. Airlines failed. Airlines with names now long-forgotten: United, Delta, Northwestern, American. All now merged, of course, into the one lone U.S. carrier we love so much: Southwest.

Against this backdrop of weariness of the war on terror, and economic distress, the American people were ripe for a demagogue, and they certainly got one in Barrack Hussein Obama.

He and his running mate Kathleen Sibelius inspired them with vague notions of hope and change; of a world in which diplomacy settled all international problems, of free universal health care, of abundant alternative energy, of peace and love. It was a vision too good to resist. The Republican nominee, a name you probably haven't heard in years. Anyone remember him?

Yes, it was John McCain, an obscure Senator from Arizona had no clue how to run a national campaign, and a platform nearly as liberal as Obama's. The selection of Condoleeza Rice as his running mate looked brilliant at first. Unfortunately, black voters viewed her as white, and women voters viewed her as one of the guys. Even so, the McCain/Rice ticket would have won the election if it were not for the fact that 16 percent of conservative Republicans voted for [Anyone remember?] That's right, Bob Barr, another name that's a footnote in history.

After Obama's narrow win, thanks to recounts in Broward County, Florida, the country was positively giddy. A Democrat House, Senate, and President. At last an end to gridlock in Washington. Camelot! When Congress convened in January, 2009, the 44th President of the United States did something unique in history: he made good on his campaign promises.

Certainly most Americans never really thought he was serious during the campaign. But whether because of inexperience, idealism, or simply incompetence, he followed through. In Obama's first One Hundred Days, the Democrat Congress passed his initiatives, and he signed them into law as he said he would. He repealed the Bush tax cuts, and increased capital gains taxes. He enacted a windfall profits tax, and instituted price controls on gasoline and diesel fuel.

He passed universal health care, which added an additional 10 percent tax increase on all working Americans. He signed the Immigrant Amnesty bill which created 12 million new citizens instantly, each with entitlements.

He closed the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, and summarily released all the detainees. He repealed the Patriot Act, and cut funding for espionage, and eliminated all terrorist listening and wiretaps. Most important, he began the complete and immediate withdrawal of all American troops from Iraq. He ignored the advice of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who wanted to retain bases in Kuwait and Qatar. Instead, he went with the recommendation of Secretary of Defense Dennis Kucinich, and ordered all troops back to U S. soil.

Viola! In One Hundred Days, by May of 2009, it was all done, and the vision was complete. He did exactly what he said he would do. And so it was in the summer of 2009 that things began to unravel for Obama. Of course, the economy needed a tax cut, not an increase, and unemployment quickly rose to 12 percent. Even attorneys and economists were put in the bread lines. Hard times were here! Price controls on gasoline immediately led to shortages and gas lines.

The global cooling trend we have seen for the past 25 years first became obvious in 2009, exposing the CO2 global warming fraud. People were justifiably angry. Federal deficits increased massively because thousands of baby boomers, facing job loss and much higher taxes, simply gave up and took social security.

Although the superb U.S. health care system was thrown into disarray, the bright spot was the creation of the Federal Department of Health care, and the immediate hiring of 250,000 administrators, inspectors and auditors, the only job growth in any economic sector in 2009.

By February 2010, the U.S. military withdrawal from Iraq was complete. It was a very expensive undertaking. And then in March, the gradual Shiite insurgencies from Iran turned into a true Iraqi civil war. In May, Iranian tanks crossed the border and quickly took Baghdad. Although the exact number is not known, at least 230,000 Sunni Iraqis died as we stood by and did nothing. Iran also quickly moved into undefended Kuwait. President Obama did exactly what he said he would. He sent Secretary of State Maria Cantwell to Tehran to meet with Iranian President Ahmadinejad. After two weeks of high level talks, the United States agreed to allow Iran to retain Iraq and Kuwait to create stability in the middle east, with the understanding that Israel would not be disturbed.

Cantwell returned to Washington, and explained the agreement in her famous speech, in which she proudly noted that the Obama administration had finally achieved 'peace in our time' in the Middle East. So there was some surprise at the rocket attacks on Tel Aviv on August 14th. President Obama said, 'This is not the Ahmadinejad I knew.' The Obama administration decided it would be de-stabilizing to take sides in the conflict, and approximately 29,000 Israeli civilians died during the summer and fall.

American Jews were appalled at the inaction. Yes, in 2010 most American Jews were Democrats, but because of 2010, they are solid Republicans today. As awkward as it was, everything might have turned out all right for the Obama administration going into the fall mid-term elections of 2010, if it hadn't been for the dirty bomb in the Port of Long Beach. The administration had cut funding for the inspection of containers, because they felt it showed a 'lack of trust' in the international trading community.

It wasn't really a very big bomb, and thank goodness, not a real nuclear device, but nonetheless it contaminated some expensive real estate --- Newport Beach, Palos Verdes Estates --- and ultimately caused the death of 14,000 Americans. People were especially annoyed that Disneyland had to be closed for decontamination.

And so, in the midterm elections, Republicans regained control of both the House and Senate, and the rest is history. The impeachment proceedings against President Obama for 'failure to protect and defend' were swift and nearly unanimous. Vice President Sibelius resigned. Newly-elected Speaker of the House, J.C. Watts, became the 45th President of the United States. But you know the rest of the story well. Republicans finished the war on Islamic fundamentalists, largely by aiming ICBM's at Mecca and Medina.

No Democrat has been elected President since. Republicans have held both Houses of Congress. History of Western Civilization and Economics are now taught in all public schools, and in English only. Marriage is defined as one man and one woman. And there are border fences, north and south. We old codgers remember the ancient Confucian curse: 'May you live in interesting times.

'Well, 2010 was an interesting year, but it was not a good year to be President.'

A poll this week indicates that 76% of the American people want off-shore and ANWR oil drilling to begin right now. Sounds pretty reasonable, doesn't it? After all, it is obvious that we are becoming more and more indebted to foreign countries that are not our friends.

The democratic presidental candidate say's: "No, we should NOT start increased drilling right now because (get this ...!) it would not change the price of gas at the pump RIGHT NOW." Well ... DAH!

It seems clear to me that, once again, the democrates would much rather CONTROL our lifestyle, rather than upset the tree huggers.

Oil Prices: Corporations and ECON 101

Let's get a ground rule established: The oil companies are NOT government owned, controlled or regulated. (Maybe they should be ... and might just end up that way if world oil supplied become critical.) They are operated as a public corporation and BY LAW must act in the best interest of the stockholders - NOT the consumers! What does "best interest" mean? It means, for example, that Exxon/Mobil is required to run the business in a manner that produces the most return to the stockholders.

What would happen if Exxon/Mobil decided to be benevolent and cut retail gas prices and be a "good guy?" The first thing that would happen is the stockholders would find a group of attorneys with vicious sharp teeth and sue the "you know what" out of Exxon/Mobil. The cause of action would be that Exxon/Mobil was not acting in the best interest of the stockholders and therefore, the stockholders were losing money to which they feel entitled.

Regardless of all the investigating, posturing and pure BS by the current crop of political guru's, there is NOTHING they can do to adjust the prices charged by Exxon/Mobil ... or Nike, for that matter. Yes, the politico's can reduce taxes or change environmental regulations which might make manufacturing the product easier and cheaper, but the bottom line is still the same: They charge what they want and if you don't like it - don't buy it!

I hear that some politicians recommend suspending federal gas taxes for a period of time, possibly through the summer. Consider this: Let's assume that the current price of a certain grade of gas is $3.75/gal. If the Fed's cut the tax by $.50, then the same gallon of gas should be $3.25. Ahh, but wait a minute: So far, albeit with loud complaints, we're currently paying the asking price of $3.75 and using virtually the same amount of gas. So if the price suddenly drops to $3.25, with tax suspension, Exxon/Mobil, acting in the best interest of STOCKHOLDERS, knows full well that if they raised the price of gas, so that the consumer is still paying $3.75/gal. the stockholders profits will be even greater and the consumer will complain even more - but will continue to buy virtually the same amount of gas! Same amount of gas, higher prices, more money for stockholders - good deal! Buy Exxon/Mobil stock. (I do!)

ECON 101, clearly states that the best price for any goods or services is the highest price you can charge before the customer starts cutting back on purchases. Even then, the best price for maximum return to the company is that price where there actually is some cutback in demand. Bottom line: Until the gas consumer actually cuts back in purchases, which so far is negligible, the price keeps going UP!

Where the government can act, is in the case of an "Enron type" of market manipulation. This seems likely, but my guess is isn't. Enron was acting in a stealth mode, thinking they could could get away with it. With all the spotlights on the oil companies, it would take a "village idiot" mentality to try to manipulate the market. Ain't going to happen ... no need for it. The consumer just pumps more money right into the pockets of all the stockholders.

Do I need to say it again? The government is impotent in bringing down gas prices. Don't believe the BS the politico's are tell us.

Why Return To The Air Force Academy?

Why return to the Air Force Academy after Winter
Break?

So after our sunburns have faded and the memories of our winter break have been reduced to pictures we've
pinned on our desk boards, and once again we've exchanged T-shirts and swim suits for flight suits and camouflage, there still remains the question that every cadet at U.S.Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs has asked themselves at some point: Why did we come back?

Why, after spending two weeks with our family would we return to one of the most demanding lifestyles in the
country? After listening to our 'friends' who are home from State or Ivy League schools chock full of wisdom about how our war in Iraq is unjust and unworldly, why would we return? And after watching the news and reading the papers which only seem to condemn the military's every mistake and shadow every victory, why would we continue to think it is worth the sacrifice of a normal college life?

Is it because the institution to which we belong is tuition- free?

Anyone who claims this has forgotten that we will, by the time we graduate, repay the US taxpayer many times over in blood, sweat, and tears. Is it because the schooling we are receiving is one of the best undergraduate educations in the country?

While the quality of the education is second to none, anyone who provides this as a main reason has lost sight of the awesome responsibility that awaits those who are tough enough to graduate and become commissioned officers in the U.S. Air Force.

I come back to the Academy because I want to have thet training necessary so that one day I'll have the incredible responsibility of leading the sons and daughters of America in combat. These men and women will never ask about my Academy grade point average, their only concern will be that I have the ability to lead them expertly; I will be humbled to earn their respect.

I come back to the Academy because I want to be the Commander who saves lives by negotiating with Arab leaders... in their own language.

I come back to the Academy because, if called upon, I want to be the pilot who flies half way around the world with three mid-air refuelings to send a bomb from 30,000 feet into a basement housing the enemy... through a ventilation shaft two feet wide.

Becoming an officer in today's modern Air Force is so much more than just command; it is being a diplomat, a
strategist, a communicator, a moral compass, but always a warrior first.

I come back to the Air Force Academy because, right now, the United States is fighting a global war that is an
'away game' in Iraq - taking the fight to the terrorists. Whether or not we think the terrorists were in Iraq before our invasion, they are unquestionably there now. And if there is any doubt as to whether this is a global war, just ask the people in Amman, in London, in Madrid, in Casablanca, in Riyadh, and in Bali.

This war must remain an away game because we have seen what happens when it becomes a home game... I come back to the Academy because I want to be a part of that fight.

I come back to the Academy because I don't want my vacationing family to board a bus in Paris that gets blown away by someone who thinks that it would be a good idea to convert the Western world to Islam.

I come back to the Academy because I don't want the woman I love to be the one who dials her last frantic cell phone call while huddled in the back of n airliner with a hundred other people seconds away from slamming into the Capitol building.

I come back to the Academy because during my freshman year of high school I sat in a geometry class and watched nineteen terrorists change the course of history live on television.

For the first time, every class currently at a U.S. Service Academy made the decision to join after the 2001 terror attacks.

Some have said that the U.S. invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan only created more terrorists... I say that the attacks of September 11th, 2001 created an untold more number of American soldiers; I go to school with 4,000 of them. And that's worth more than missing a few frat parties.

The Clinton's act like they have an "entitlement" to the White House ... and if everyone would just relax and stop "picking on Hillary," the coronation would would proceed as planned.

And, Oh Yes, she would bring about the changes we "need:"

1) A universal health care plan she botched a few year back ... and a plan there is NO WAY the nation can afford.

2) Start pulling the military life support out of Iraq and put not only our country in mortal danger, but also add great risk to the rest of the free world.

3) Never mind that Bill and I have made over 100 Million Dollars since leaving the White House, we're going to help the poor.

4) Promote honesty in government. Juice up the "Landing under fire and dodging bullets in Bosnia story," later admit it was error and now watch an out-of-control Bill, just yesterday, trying to convince us that Hillary was just tired and the "Bullets and Fire" fable really was true.

5) Be there at "3AM, when the phone rings" to solve massive problems.

How many times have your heard this: "The problem with the US is everyone in the world hates us." It's a common mantra. Have you ever stopped to think about exactly who is "everyone" that hates us?

Maybe a few of the leaders in North Korea hate us. I wonder how many common folks in N. Korea hate us? (See the "Ps.", below.)

Maybe a few of the leaders in Iran hate us. I wonder how many of the US schooled students hate us? (See the "Ps.", below.)

Maybe a few of the leaders in China hate us. I wonder how many common Chinese hate us? (Ask someone who's traveled to China. See the "Ps.", below.)

Maybe a few of the leaders in Russia hate us. I wonder how many common Russians hate us? (See the "Ps.", below.)

France? I don't think so.
Canada? I don't think so.
Mexico? I don't think so.
England? I don't think so.
Australia? I don't think so.
New Zealand? I don't think so.
Scotland? I don't think so.
Germany? I don't think so.
Spain? I don't think so?
South Korea? I don't think so.
Japan? I don't think so.
... and on and on!

So who are these haters? It seems to me that those in the "everyone hates America" group are the one's that seemingly either don't have a clue as to what is happening in the world today or they are terribly envious. (Remember in high school: Who did YOU hate? Maybe it was the most successful person or the most attractive person or the person with the best car or most friends ... or the smartest kid in the school. Sound familiar?)

So maybe the next time you hear "Everyone Hates The US," pin them down: WHO is "everyone" and after they rattle off a list of haters, ask why. Listen to the list of nonsensical answers and relate them you your high school experiences ... it's just about the same thing, except on a worldwide scale.

Ps: If those in the "hate the US" countries got even the slightest chance to safely come to America, what do you think they'd do?

From Over The Horizon Comes The Sound Of ...

... Thundering Hoofbeats: It's "Candidates #4 & #5!"

Here's the situation report:

On one side we have running for President, a woman, not really liked by many, that seems to claim heritage for the White House along with a scoundrel for a husband that just happens to be an ex-president with stained pants, matched against a charismatic young black senator that has great oratorical skills, but few creds. I guess in Texas they'd say he's "All Hat and No Cattle."

On the other side, we have a seemingly competent gentleman that has reached the age where a beach home in Florida seems more appropriate and who fails to get the excited interest of his party ... but, it's the best they can muster.

It seems to me that the stage is set for The Lone Ranger (or Rangers) to ride in on his (or their respective) white horse(s) and proclaim: "Stop The Fighting" ... I'll Save The Day!"

Frankly, the sooner the better! I'm so tired of turning on the radio/TV/Internet/etc. and hearing an endless stream of "Barack said that Hillary ... "; "The Clinton's said that Obama ..." and-on-and-on-and-on-and-on-and-on-and-on.

So who will sit atop the stallion? (Just heard today the maybe Al Gore is strapping on spurs. If true, I personally hope the horse bucks him off before he get to the arena.)

Ron Paul here ... Send more money

What's up with Ron Paul? He's "counting down" to the Texas and Ohio primary's ... and still asking for more money. http://www.RonPaul2008.com

Obviously, extremely few have bought into his sophomoric campaign topics. The "tree-huggers" have embraced his ideas, but "tree-huggers" are no force in US politics or leadership.

The question in my mind is this: Is Ron Paul pulling off a scam? What happens to the millions of dollars left over at the end of the campaign? Could it be that the candidate can transfer the residual funds into his own personal account? It is my understanding that it varies from state to state. Some states do allow candidates to keep left over funds ... a nice way to sweeten retirement funds.

If I was a "Paulie," I would want know what is going on.

What raises eyebrow's is the question: With absolutely NO, ZERO, ZIP chances for success, WHY is he still asking for more money?

Hello ... Is Anyone home?

No joke: Hillary is running a new TV ad in Texas, in an attempt to get back in the battle. The ad is a dark ad that asks the question: If "The Phone" rings in the White House at 2am, with bad news, who do you want to be there to answer it and save your family from impending disaster?

It obvious question is: Hillary or Barack. It also clearly implies that Hillary would be much better prepared with her "great world political connections and background" than the other unnamed candidate.

My first thoughts were Hillary would be there in bed with Bill and two heads would be better than one. Can you see the potential flaw in my thinking?

Universal Healthcare

Universal healthcare -> Universal nonsense

Barack and Hillary spent a full twenty minutes, in their recent pre-Ohio debate, trying to convince the American public that their particular flavor of universal health care was superior. Hillary make it very clear that universal health care was the heart of her political world.

This is all nonsense for two very important reasons:

We currently have a health care system in the United States that is far superior to any other country. Why do you think important non-American leaders come to the US when they have serious health problems? The answer is obvious - It's The Best! Everyone that needs health care in the US gets health care, whether they can pay for it or not.
The real problem with universal health care is simply this: We don't have the money to pay for it, regardless of how the candidates shuffle the beans under the cup. California crowed about how they were going to cover all Californians, but when it came time to vote it in, the chickens came home to roost and it became obvious ... no money ... no plan. End of the California mis-adventure. At least it was refreshing to see that some politicians "voted against it, before they voted for it," to mock another famous "old saying."

Let's get on with discussions that really mean something, like how to prevent the radical Muslim factions from disrupting the entire world, which they would dearly like to do.

Let's drop the NAFTA political posturing, also. In case you've missed it, NAFTA stands for NORTH AMERICAN Free Trade Agreement: NORTH AMERICA, like in Canada and Mexico. Where do we get most of our oil? Canada and Mexico. Where do we export most of our goods? Canada and Mexico. Who are our best trade partners? Canada and Mexico. If you listened to our liberal politicians, you'd think things would improve if we dumped NAFTA. Think again! NAFTA is very beneficial for the US economy ... and don't let some posturing politician change your mind.

Be careful what you wish for - You may get it ... and that would be a real disaster.
